12,000 B.P. - 1712
Archeological evidence shows our people here over 10,000 years ago with a territorial range throughout south Texas and northeastern Mexico.
We will explore the life our ancestors lived, and the effects of the Spanish colonization efforts.
1718
Mission San Antonio de Valero founded.
The development of the mission system and the spread of The Spanish empire, in the midst of the Catholic-led Inquisition, changed the lives of our ancestors forever.
1720 - 1782
A second mission, San Jose y San Miguel de Aguayo, was established downstream on the San Antonio River.
Unsuccessful East Texas missions were then relocated to San Antonio and situated at key points along the river, they became known as Missions Concepcion, Espada, and San Juan Capistrano.
1782 - Present
Battles and secularization marked the end of the Mission Era.
Our ancestors, who lived and worked in the missions, used the abandoned mission rocks to build their houses and set up their communities in the surrounding areas.
We, the mission descendants, make up the the modern day San Antonio community.
